This one hurt. It hurt worse than Wade Boggs who we cast away and Roger Clemens who we let go to Toronto. It hurt more than Pedro Martinez who I'm still not convinced will be finishing that contract with the New York Mets. Hero of Game Seven and idolized by millions of fans and you sign with the New York Yankees without even the courtesy of letting the Red Sox match? Ultimately, I am glad that the Red Sox did not pay Damon $52 million over 4 years but this defection hurts the Red Sox prospects for next year and myself as a fan. I can only hope and pray that we are able to run out those few extra runs on that Damon rag arm and that this is another of a string of Yankee miscues.
